You Got Lucky by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers was released October 22, 1982, with Between Two Worlds as the B side. It was the first single from the band’s fifth album Long After Dark.
The song, propelled by the success of its Mad Max-esque post-apocalyptic music video, reached No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Billboard Top Tracks charts.

May have seen this video when it first aired, but much of the 80’s are a blur… (working as a bartender in Key West was not conducive to memory retention, but I wouldn’t change a thing). Tom Petty is/was/will always be a constant in my life. This song reminds me of someone I kinda-sorta wish had come along later in life; but oh, what a good time we had. Whatever you’re doin’ now, Deb, I know you’d agree, for a coupla years there we both got lucky. Thanks for the goosebumpy flashback, Janet.

Not just Tom, but (almost) everything from the 80’s makes me smile. S’why I’m here, speaking with one of the the 1in5 who understand. A friend’s daughter overheard our conversation the other day and commented ‘Lily Allen? Ew. You still listen to Lily Allen? She’s so 2010.’ This said while thumbing her phone. The 1980s will soon seem like the 1880s. Time marches on. Sigh….
