Fascination Street by The Cure was released on April 18, 1989, with Babble as the B side. The song was only released in the United States, as the lead single from the band’s eighth studio album Disintegration.
The Cure had originally chosen Lullaby as the first U.S. single from Disintegration (it was the lead single from the album in the United Kingdom) but the band’s record company in North America, Elektra, objected and chose Fascination Street as the lead single instead. (After Lullaby was a worldwide hit, it was also released as a single in North America later in 1989.)
Fascination Street became The Cure’s first No. 1 single on Billboard’s then-newly created Modern Rock Tracks chart. It held the top spot for seven weeks.
