The song reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Twisted Sister’s only Top 40 single. It reached the Top 10 in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and Sweden.

The music video for We’re Not Gonna Take It starred actor Mark Metcalf as Snider’s father. Lyrics at the end of the song include lines Metcalf’s character Douglas C. Niedermeyer spoke in the film Animal House.
