A man walks down the street
He says why am I short of attention
Got a short little span of attention
And wo my nights are so long

You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon was released September 5, 1986, with Gumboots as the B side. It was the lead single from the album Graceland.

The song was Simon’s biggest solo hit, reaching the Top 5 in seven countries. In the United States, however, it only reached No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released in 1986. After Graceland achieved success, You Can Call Me Al reentered the chart in 1987 and peaked at No. 23.
