1987’s Solitude Standing

80s: Singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega released her self-titled debut album in 1985. Her second album, Solitude Standing, reached No. 11 on the US Billboard 200 and included the singles Tom’s Diner and Luka, a Top 5 hit. Her song Left of Center appeared on the soundtrack for the 1986 movie Pretty in Pink.

Now: Vega continues to release albums and perform. She’s released seven albums since the 80s, including her most recent, Lover, Beloved: Songs from an Evening with Carson McCullers, released on October 14, 2016. In 1999, she also released a book, The Passionate Eye: The Collected Writing of Suzanne Vega.
